Free Wi-Fi for Wellington CBD
In a press release today, Mayor Celia Wade-Brown announced that Wellington will offer free wireless internet services across most of its CBD from August 2011.
The service will be available in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011.
“I am very pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached between CityLink Limited and the Wellington City Council to establish a free-to-use Wi-Fi Network in the main areas of the CBD,” says Mayor Wade-Brown.
“This is a significant step in our City’s evolution to a digital city”.
“Initial coverage will be most of the area from Cuba Street, Waitangi Park, Courtenay Place along the ‘golden mile’ ending at the Westpac Stadium The service will eventually be extended to other locations such as Wellington Zoo, Zealandia, the Cable Car, Carter Observatory, including our main Libraries.
CityLink’s Chairman, David Ware is equally enthusiastic; “At CityLink we see the future of telecommunications as being built on a platform of fibre and wireless – this is an exciting step in that direction” says Ware.
