TeamTalk Ltd to provide fast broadband service to the Chatham Islands.
TeamTalk Ltd, the parent company of CityLink, Araneo and Farmside, is expanding its telecommunications footprint to the Chatham Islands.
These beautifully landscaped islands, roughly 800 km east of Christchurch, will get an increased satellite bandwidth connection with faster, more reliable and more cost effective broadband. Broadband connections will be provided for Kaingaroa, Pitt Island and Te One schools, the health centre and other government and local authority offices.
“Having reliable broadband will mean our local students, businesses and medical providers will be able to access the internet, video conferencing and specialist health and education services” says Mayor Alfred Preece. “This will be a huge improvement on the present situation, with broadband at dial-up speeds only available in some areas.”
TeamTalk Managing Director David Ware said, "To ensure the best possible service, we'll be installing some special ADSL equipment, along with wireless broadband, which will all be connected to an on-island internet cache and a high-capacity satellite service for backhaul."
Work will start almost immediately, following the signing of a $2.48 million contract between the Government and TeamTalk Ltd.
