Newsflash! New CityLink partnership sees us heading for the hills
We are pleased to announce that CityLink is taking over the management rights of open-access broadband network provider, Smartlinx3.
Smartlinx3’s network covers Porirua, Upper Hutt and Hutt City.
“It’s a strategic partnership for both parties,” says Neil de Wit, CEO of CityLink. “We see this as a great new beginning for CityLink to get us out into the greater Wellington region as well as extending our reach for current customers.”
Neil believes this partnership will provide Smartlinx3 customers with major benefits, including CityLink’s years of experience running world-class networks throughout Wellington.
“All of our customers will benefit,” says Neil. “This partnership will see a standardisation of products throughout the region and a consistent, quality service across the board,” says Neil.

PrivateLAN – the perfect solution for Wellington Museums Trust
The Wellington Museums Trust was established in 1995 by the Wellington City Council to further develop museum and cultural activities within Wellington city for the benefit of Wellington residents and the wider community.
Their role is to operate and manage cultural and heritage buildings and attractions including; City Gallery Wellington, Capital E, Museum of Wellington City and Sea (including the Plimmer’s Ark Gallery), Wellington Cable Car Museum, Colonial Cottage Museum and the New Zealand Cricket Museum (jointly with the New Zealand Cricket Museum Trust).
Over the last decade, some of the Trust’s key achievements include relocating a number of key facilities, opening new museums and undertaking several major development projects. Around 700,000 people come to visit, see a show, go to an exhibition or attend a school programme at the Trust’s facilities each year.
Their head office is based in the Bond Store building - which also houses the City and Sea Museum - where they provide a centralised support infrastructure to service the City Gallery, Capital E, Cable Car Museum and the Carter Observatory.
Operating and managing several different sites can become challenging and CityLink have provided the perfect solution for the Wellington Museums Trust through their PrivateLAN service. This enables them to connect their head office LAN to other sites around the city providing a secure, private and robust solution.
Rob Cox from Network Pro, who provide IT support to the Trust explains, “We currently have three sites connected and are looking at adding another two in the new year. We’re finding this service has a lot of positives. It’s cheaper to manage one firewall, rather than three or four, which cuts down on costs and man hours. We’re much more in control of the traffic through the CityLink network rather than over the Internet and don’t have to worry so much about external security. All of that gives us peace of mind.”
Rob believes PrivateLAN has definitely added value to the Trust’s business and finds working with CityLink a breeze. “I’ve had absolutely no issues with them at all,” says Rob. “Their service has been very good indeed.”
